Danes determined to finish job

The UEFA European Under-21 Championship sees 17 matches tonight with four more teams, including Denmark and England, able to reach the play-offs.

Pole position
Denmark and Israel have their destiny in their own hands before away matches in Turkey and Switzerland respectively, while England and Germany can each seal a top-two finish if they win and one other result goes their way. The top two from each of the eight groups will enter November’s two-legged deciders for the eight places in next summer's final tournament, hosted by one of the eventual qualifiers.

Serritslev warning
The Danes have perhaps the trickiest task of those in action, with a Group 2 trip to Turkey. The home side still have a chance themselves of making it through and Denmark coach Flemming Serritslev said: "We realise that this is probably our toughest task of the remaining matches in our group, but I want to get the remaining three points as soon as possible."

Out of reach
Israel conclude their Group 4 qualifying campaign against the Swiss knowing a victory would take them out of reach of their opponents. Elsewhere, Group 6 rivals England and Germany will both go through if they achieve wins in Wales and at home against Azerbaijan respectively, and Poland and Austria draw in Jaworzno.

Eilts determined
For Germany coach Dieter Eilts, he is particularly keen his team keep their unbeaten record going in Trier tonight, with six wins and two draws during his reign. "We definitely won’t underestimate them," he said of an Azeri team that has taken just two points from seven games. “We know what to expect."

Picture clearing
In all 17 qualifiers will be played today, with two more following tomorrow. Armenia's home match against the Netherlands and the Czech Republic's trip to Romania on Saturday will go a long way to resolving Group 3's second qualifiers. The leaders Portugal, who are through but have yet to confirm first place, will be in action tonight at home against Luxembourg.
