Mourinho pleased with progress

Chelsea FC manager José Mourinho said he was "satisfied" with his team's 2-0 win at RSC Anderlecht that took them into the knockout stages.

Chelsea FC secured qualification to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages as first-half goals from Hernán Crespo and Ricardo Carvalho gave them a 2-0 Group G win against RSC Anderlecht, a result that pleased manager José Mourinho and extended the Belgian side's losing run in the competition to 12 games.

José Mourinho, Chelsea manager
We achieved our aim of getting the three points so I am happy with the result. We were very strong in the opening half-hour, with some high-quality play, quick passing and lots of pressure. At half-time I asked the players to maintain that level but it wasn't easy for them to repeat it. When it was obvious we would not score again I made a couple of substitutions in order to keep the result at 2-0. Winning the group is not important for me though, qualifying is the most important part. However, it is important to both our fans and Liverpool [FC]'s fans who finishes top. Last season we played [FC] Barcelona at the next stage and defeated them, so who we get now is no problem for me.

Frank Vercauteren, Anderlecht coach
It's not good that we still have no points but what can you do when you play against high-quality teams and don't bring enough quality to the game yourself. Our positional play, communication and efficiency must all improve if we are to compete at this level. However, we cannot dwell on this defeat for too long because we have an important league match on Saturday. I was satisfied with how we played in the second half and had some half chances. I was hoping we would score at least once because that would have helped us mentally, but it wasn't to be.
