Hamburg pin hopes on Laas

UEFA Cup contenders Hamburger SV have extended promising midfielder Alexander Laas's contract for another season until summer 2007.

German UEFA Cup contenders Hamburger SV have extended Alexander Laas's contract for another season until summer 2007.

Promising talent
The 21-year-old's previous deal was due to expire at the end of the campaign, but the promising midfielder has been rewarded for a fine start to the season. General manager Dietmar Beiersdorfer said: "I hope he will break through in the long term." Laas was an unused substitute as Hamburg drew 1-1 at home to FC København in the first leg of their UEFA Cup first-round tie last night.
