Headaches sideline Pasanen

Werder Bremen defender Petri Pasanen will be out for an unspecified period after suffering a recurrence of his bad headaches.

'Bad headaches'
"Even last season he had bad headaches from time to time," general manager Klaus Allofs said. "This problem flared up against [FC] Basel 1893 and he had to be ruled out against VfB Stuttgart [on 27 August]." The Finnish international missed Saturday's 3-2 victory against BV Borussia Dortmund with a similar problem.

'Pain'
Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf added: "The situation seemed to have improved recently and Pasanen felt more comfortable but now the pain is back. We take Pasanen's situation very seriously and we will give him a rest. Of course, a medical check had already been done. However, we hope he will be fit again very soon."

Bremen regular
Pasanen, 24, joined Bremen in summer 2004 from Portsmouth FC after a spell with AFC Ajax. He has scored once in 23 Bundesliga appearances and had established himself in the Bremen side following Valérien Ismaël's summer transfer to FC Bayern München.
