FC Barcelona have handed coach Frank Rijkaard a two-year contract extension which ties the 42-year-old Dutchman to the club until June 2009.

FC Barcelona have handed coach Frank Rijkaard a two-year contract extension which ties the Dutchman to the Spanish champions until June 2009.

'Very honoured'
The 42-year-old signed the new deal at Camp Nou last night, ending months of negotiations with the Catalan club. Rijkaard said: "I feel very honoured to have agreed this contract and as always, I will continue to give my all for the benefit of the team. This is an important move for me but does not mean I can rest on my laurels. We need to continue working hard and carry on promoting the good image that Barcelona have achieved in the football world."
