Clarence Seedorf struck AC Milan's fastest-ever UEFA Champions League goal when he opened the scoring at FC Schalke 04 tonight, although the Dutchman's mark of 25 seconds was not enough to eclipse the record set by Arsenal FC's Gilberto three seasons ago.
Seedorf's early effort, which was cancelled out two minutes later by Schalke's Søren Larsen, put him third on the list of players to have scored inside 60 seconds. Gilberto's goal after 20.07 seconds against PSV Eindhoven on 25 September 2002 bettered Alessandro Del Piero's for Juventus FC against Manchester United FC in October 1997 by five-hundredths of a second.
