Bellamy risks UEFA ban

Newcastle United FC's Craig Bellamy faces UEFA action after appearing to headbutt an opponent.

Newcastle United FC striker Craig Bellamy faces UEFA disciplinary action after appearing to headbutt an opponent during his side's UEFA Champions League match against FC Dynamo Kyiv.

Unsporting conduct
Newcastle were notified today of UEFA's decision to charge Bellamy, a Welsh international, with unsporting conduct after video evidence suggested he struck Dynamo's Tiberiu Ghioane in the closing minutes of Wednesday's Group E match, which the Ukrainian side won 2-0.

Decision next Wednesday
Bellamy and his club have until next Tuesday lunchtime to state their case before UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body decides on the matter the following day. This means the 23-year-old will be able to play in Newcastle's home match against Feyenoord on Tuesday.

Incident missed by official
Match referee Eduardo Iturralde González missed the incident in the Dynamo stadium, and UEFA will only take disciplinary action against the player if his action is deemed "grossly unsporting".
