Engel to watch over Polonia

Former national coach Jerzy Engel has returned to club football as director of KP Polonia Warszawa.

Former Poland coach Jerzy Engel has returned to club football as director of Polish Ekstraklasa side KP Polonia Warszawa.

League champion
Engel was offered the chance to rejoin Polonia - the club he led to the league title in 2000 - after a poor run of results culminating in last week's 6-0 UEFA Cup defeat by FC Porto.

Emergency talks
Following that result, Polonia chairman Janusz Romanowski held talks with coach Janusz Bialek and an emergency board meeting before deciding to bring back Engel in an upstairs role. Engel, 49, was Poland's coach at this summer's FIFA World Cup.
