Juventus may have lost 3-1 against AC Milan on Saturday to end their nine-game winning streak, but David Trezeguet's consolation goal allowed the French striker to match Michel Platini's record of 104 goals with the Turin team in all competitions.
Pride in defeat
"It's not exactly the right moment to talk about personal achievements, although obviously I'm very proud to keep on climbing the Juventus scoring charts," Trezeguet said. With his next goal, the French international striker will become Juve's tenth highest goalscorer ever and equal the record of another Bianconeri legend, Welsh striker John Charles, who died last year.
Rapid rate
Platini scored his 104 goals in 224 games between 1982 and 1987, while Trezeguet took only 176 games to reach that figure. "Equalling Platini's record was one of my objectives this season, but frankly I would prefer to talk about that after a different kind of game," Trezeguet added. "Maybe when I have scored a winning goal. Against Milan nothing went well for us, but we will have to react immediately and beat [FC] Bayern München in the [UEFA] Champions League on Wednesday."
