Zelkevicius looks abroad

Lithuania have gone for foreign-based players to face the Faroe Islands and Iceland this month.

Lithuania coach Benjaminas Zelkevicius has gone for foreign-based talent for his squad to face the Faroe Islands and Iceland later this month.

Morinas out
The only home-based player is Mindaugas Garzijauskas of FK Ekranas, who was called up in the absence of Igoris Morinas of 1. FSV Mainz O5. Lithuania are anxious to get their Group 5 campaign up and running after a 2-0 home defeat against Germany in their opening qualifier last month.

Good chance
They welcome the Faroe Islands on 12 October before travelling to Iceland four days later. With Scotland making up the group, the Lithuanians believe they have a good chance of at least playing for second place.

Four points needed
"We need to get four points out of these two games, otherwise we have nothing to count on in the group," said Lithuania assistant coach Gintas Buzas.

Lithuania squad
Stauce, Karcemarskas, Skarbalius, Mikalajunas, Skerla, Stankevicius, Gleveckas, Dziaukstas, Dedura, Zutautas, Razanauskas, Semberas, Cesnauskis, Barasa, Gardzijauskas, Jankauskas, Poskus, Fomenko.
