Oliveira ruled out until new year

Real Betis Balompié striker Ricardo Oliveira will miss the rest of the UEFA Champions League group stage, while team-mate Nano will also be sidelined.

Awkward fall
The pair were hurt during last night's 1-0 home victory against Chelsea FC. The 25-year-old Oliveira suffered the worse injury after falling awkwardly in a 25th-minute challenge with visiting defender Ricardo Carvalho. Scans today revealed a fractured kneecap while several internal ligaments were stretched in the collision.

Early forecast
Club medical officials are eager to run further tests once the swelling inside Oliveira's knee recedes. However, they have made a pessimistic forecast, expecting the Brazilian to be out for a minimum of four months.

Ligament sprain
Nano, also 25, had left the field just before Oliveira, and he too has suffered a knee injury with tests revealing sprained ligaments. His prognosis suggests at least a month on the sidelines. Betis, whose next Group G match is at Liverpool FC on 23 November, already have Miguel Ángel Lozano out with a long-term knee problem.
