Darcheville at the double

ŠKM Púchov 1-4 FC Girondins de Bordeaux(Agg: 1-10) French side finish the job.

Jean-Claude Darcheville scored twice as FC Girondins de Bordeaux breezed through to the second round of the UEFA Cup with a comfortable 4-1 win tonight over ŠKM Púchov in Zilina.

Savio strikes first
Bordeaux wasted no time in adding to their 6-0 first-leg lead. Brazilian winger Savio put the French side ahead on 14 minutes before Darcheville doubled the advantage on 42 minutes. Jozef Mužlay pulled one back for the Slovakian side on the stroke of half-time, but Bordeaux resumed control after the break.

Darcheville double
Pascal Feindouno beat two defenders and then rounded goalkeeper Tomá Bernády to make it 3-1 on 67 minutes. Darcheville then added his second of the night with two minutes remaining, lobbing Bernády, who, despite conceding four goals, was the best player on the pitch for the home side.

Defensive mistakes
"The French side were obviously stronger even without the likes of [Christophe] Dugarry and Pauleta," Jozef Šuran, the Púchov coach, said. "The second leg was more balanced, but Bordeaux took advantage of our defensive mistakes and they made us pay."

Good reward
Bordeaux coach Elie Baup was delighted with the result. "A high-scoring win and qualification for the second round is a good reward for my team. I am satisfied," he said. "Despite scoring half-a-dozen goals in the first leg, my players were still motivated to get more, which makes me happy."
