Midfielder Gerber pulled up again in training last week after two months of being plagued by the injury. The 32-year-old has not been in the Thun starting lineup since the 5-1 defeat at FC Basel 1893 on 2 October and was a substitute in the 4-2 defeat by AFC Ajax in their last UEFA Champions League outing on 2 November.
Tricky tests
Gerber's decision to rest means he will not play again before February and will miss the remaining two group stage games. Thun, in their debut season in Europe's premier club competition, can still reach the knockout stages but face tricky tests at home against already-qualified Arsenal FC on Tuesday and then at AC Sparta Praha on 7 December.
