Baía back in Porto fold

FC Porto have lifted their suspension on Portugal keeper Vítor Baía and restored him to their squad.

FC Porto have lifted their suspension on goalkeeper Vítor Baía and restored the Portuguese international to their squad.

Training-ground row
Baía, 33, had been banned from all club activities after a training-ground row with coach José Mourinho last month. But today the former FC Barcelona man promised to put the incident behind him: "I am glad the situation is over. Now I will work for my place in the team."

Dropped in September
Baía clashed with Mourinho after learning he had been dropped from the first-team squad for the match against Vitória Guimarães on 23 September. He also upset club officials by giving an interview to a newspaper over the same weekend.

Baía fined
Today Porto released a statement saying: "The board of directors have decided to fine the player and also to lift, with immediate effect, his suspension."

Vienna role
Baía will now be available for Porto's UEFA Cup second-round tie against FK Austria Wien, having not played in either of the matches against KP Polonia Warszawa in the first round. Nuno Simões started both those matches, with Baía on the bench for the first leg only.
