Di Vaio delight at felling Feyenoord

Marco Di Vaio was relieved after his double helped below-par Juventus FC beat Feyenoord 2-0.

Marco Di Vaio was relieved after his two goals had seen a below-par Juventus FC beat Feyenoord 2-0 to qualify for the second stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Di Vaio double
Di Vaio struck one goal in each half to give his side the three points needed to secure their passage to the next round, but admitted after the game that his team had not been at their best and that Feyenoord had put them under pressure for parts of the game.

'Deserved victory'
He said: "I am delighted that we won because we didn't manage to control the game despite taking an early lead. We were a bit nervous because there was a lot at stake and Feyenoord played really well. However, we were also close to scoring more goals so I think we deserved to win."

Del Piero disappoints
The forward, who started his first game since suffering concussion after a clash with Newcastle United FC defender Andy O’Brien a month ago, rescued his team as most of his team-mates, such as the normally reliable Alessandro Del Piero and Ciro Ferrara, had a bad day at the office.

Classy Camoranesi
Di Vaio also paid tribute to Argentinian winger Mauro Camoranesi, who set up both goals adding: "He [Camonaresi] played very well tonight and supplied me with two great passes. Especially the first as it gave us an early lead and meant that we could be more relaxed after that."

'Chances created'
Juventus FC coach Marcello Lippi admitted after the game that Feyenoord had given them a tough game. He said: "They were missing several players but those who played were really quick and technically good. We were not as good as we have been in previous Champions League games but the good thing is that we managed to create several chances despite not being no top of our game."

Lippi warning
Lippi also warned the rest of Europe's top teams that, although they had qualified for the second stage with a game to spare, his team had "only played at 50 per cent of their capability so far".

'Do us a favour'
Feyenoord coach Bert van Marwijk said he felt that his team had played well, especially in the second half, when his team had dominated proceedings – but added that they had not taken their chances. He said: "I am very frustrated that we didn't manage to get anything from this game because we played really well and my players played the way I want them to. Now we need Juventus to help us by winning in Kyiv. I respect Marcello Lippi very much and I hope that they will do us a favour in two weeks' time."
