Rijkaard relieved to reach last four

Coach Frank Rijkaard admitted he was delighted to see the second goal go in, as FC Barcelona left it late before securing their victory against SL Benfica.

Frank Rijkaard, Barcelona coach
I think this result is what we worked for, so I congratulate my players and the crowd. To kick off with the aggregate score still 0-0 meant we had to be completely focused on winning the match. It was a very tense second half, which is normal at this level, because although we were 1-0 up, they could have changed the game so I was very glad when we got the second goal. Barcelona aren't the type of team who score and then sit back to defend. Benfica played very well and created dangerous chances. I'm happy that we missed the penalty because then there was no controversy over whether a penalty should have been given against Thiago Motta in the first leg. When you score so early in the match, you usually end up suffering for the rest of the game. It will be a very interesting tie against a strong Milan side. They have a complete squad, so we have to prepare ourselves for two great matches.

Ronald Koeman, Benfica coach
You could say we feel disappointed at the result, as we were after the first leg at the Luz. We had two good opportunities in the second half which meant we could have drawn. To control the match you have to play very calmly, but Barcelona pressurised us a lot and we lost too many balls in midfield. They were superior to us in both matches but we did have good chances to get through.

Víctor Valdés, Barcelona goalkeeper
The team were very strong from the start and after the missed penalty they didn't lose confidence. Ronaldinho usually gets stronger after something like that. Benfica were a very good, organised team and made the most of the set-pieces they had. It was a great victory and now we face Milan. They will be difficult opponents with very good players tactically, technically and physically.
