Basel target second stage

UEFA Champions League Group B heats up tonight when FC Basel travel to face FC Spartak Moskva.

Group B of the UEFA Champions League heats up tonight when FC Basel travel to frozen Moscow to face FC Spartak Moskva looking for three points in a rearranged Matchday Five fixture.

Remaining question
Valencia CF have definitely won the group, so the remaining question is which side finishes second and which goes into the UEFA Cup. Basel currently sit third with five points, two fewer than Liverpool FC. If they win in Moscow, then a draw in their final game at home to Liverpool will be enough to make them the first Swiss side to ever reach the second group stage.

Basel task
If Basel lose tonight or draw, they will have to beat Liverpool at home next Tuesday to go through. If Christian Gross's side were to edge four-times European champions Liverpool out of the competition it would certainly be a huge upset. Meanwhile, Spartak, who have not taken a single point so far, need to win their last two games to have a chance of reaching the UEFA Cup.

'Many underestimated us'
"Many underestimated us before the group stage started - we knew it and it motivated us even more," said Basel's Yugoslavian midfield player Ivan Ergic. "We will try to do everything to disappoint Spartak and decide our fate in the last match at home against Liverpool."
