Robert to miss crucial encounter

Newcastle United FC's Laurent Robert will miss the Group E showdown with Feyenoord.

Surgical manoeuvre
French winger Robert is to have surgery on a broken cheekbone tomorrow, ruling him out of his club's final group game in Rotterdam next Wednesday, one they must win.

'Elbow in the face'
Robert suffered the injury during yesterday's League Cup defeat by Everton FC. Manager Bobby Robson said: "Laurent took a nasty elbow in the face and he has fractured his cheekbone. We are expecting to be without him for around a month."

Must win fixture
Newcastle are in third place in Group E, a point behind FC Dynamo Kyiv who have the better head-to-head record. They must beat Feyenoord on Matchday Six to have a chance of overhauling the Ukrainian team, who host Juventus FC on the same day.
