Liverpool to light up third-round draw

It is that time when the ranks of the UEFA Cup are swollen by eliminated teams from the UEFA Champions League.

Lucky losers
This year's 'lucky losers' come none bigger than Liverpool FC, four times European champions and three times UEFA Cup winners, including the famous 5-4 win over Deportivo Alavés in 2001.

French out in force
Liverpool will be joined by at least two French clubs, possibly three. Reigning champions Olympique Lyonnais and Guy Roux's AJ Auxerre are certain starters, while RC Lens may find themselves joining their compatriots when the Champions League first group stage concludes tonight.

AEK through
The only other club sure to contest Friday's third-round draw are AEK Athens FC, the draw specialists from Champions League Group C, although Israel's Maccabi Haifa will join them as long as they do not lose heavily at Olympiakos Piraeus FC tonight.
