Germany defender Lukas Sinkiewicz has been ruled out for several months with a cruciate ligament injury to cap a miserable week for his team.
Ligament damage
The 1. FC Köln player hurt his right knee in the 1-0 defeat by Portugal on Sunday that meant Dieter Eilts's side failed to progress to the last four. Having returned to Cologne, club doctor Peter Schäferhoff diagnosed the extent of the damage, ruling the 20-year-old out of the start of the 2006/07 season. Sinkiewicz played 33 times in the last Bundesliga campaign and had been in contention for the FIFA World Cup squad.
