Lithuanian Valdas Ivanauskas has been confirmed as the permanent manager of Heart of Midlothian FC after helping the capital club finish second in Scotland last season while in charge in a caretaker capacity.
Magnificent response
Chairman Roman Romanov parted company with George Burley and Graham Rix last season before handing Ivanauskas the reins in late March. Despite the upheaval, Hearts' players responded magnificently to finish second behind Celtic FC and will now compete in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League against FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk of Belarus or NK Široki Brijeg from Bosnia-Herzegovina. John McGlynn will continue as Ivanauskas's assistant, with former Belarus coach Edouard Malofeev taking over as sporting director.
