Back from a ban
The 31-year-old former Portugal winger missed Standard's 2-2 third qualifying round draw against FC Steaua Bucuresti, and on 11 August became available again to coach Johan Boskamp following the domestic ban he had incurred for pushing his shirt into the face of a referee towards the end of last season. His hopes of returning to the Standard side for the second-leg trip to Romania on 23 August have been ended, however, after it was discovered that he has cartilage damage in his left knee which will require surgery. Sérgio Conceição's absence from the playing fields will now be extended by a further month.
