Slovenia set Swiss date

Slovenia will play a friendly international against Switzerland on 12 February in Nova Gorica.

Slovenia have agreed to play Switzerland in a 12 February friendly international in Nova Gorica ahead of the UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifying matches at the start of April.

Home comforts
"We also had offers to travel to Qatar, South Africa and Oman, but these would have been too far to travel which is not good for us," said Football Association of Slovenia secretary Dane Jost. "For this reason we prefer to play at home to Switzerland and in a new town, Nova Gorica."

Cyprus next
Slovenia's bid to reach their second successive UEFA European Championship has got off to an indifferent start, with a 3-0 win against Malta preceding a 5-0 thrashing by France, the leaders of Group 1. The Slovenians are next in action against Cyprus on 2 April.

Dublin victory
There are no such problems for the Swiss, who sit at the top of Group 10 after collecting seven points from their opening three matches, including an excellent defeat of the Republic of Ireland in Dublin. They can add to that tally by accounting for Georgia away in a match that will also be played on 2 April.
