Warmuz takes a break

RC Lens's out-of-sorts goalkeeper Guillaume Warmuz will not play again until after the winter break.

RC Lens goalkeeper and team captain Guillaume Warmuz has announced that he is taking a break from football until after the winter break.

Poor form
The decision comes after a spell of poor form, including against FC Porto in the UEFA Cup third-round first leg last Thursday when Warmuz made two mistakes in his side's 3-0 defeat.

Itandje steps in
"My mind still wants to win but my hands less so at the moment," said Warmuz, who made his decision on Friday and was replaced in goal for Saturday's Ligue 1 game against En Avant Guingamp by France Under-21 goalkeeper Charles Itandje. He will return to action in the new year.

Muller comments
"I still trust him," said Lens coach Joël Muller. "But I have just asked him to go away and have a think about things for the next couple of weeks." Warmuz helped Lens clinch the title in 1998 and was ever-present in their unsuccessful UEFA Champions League first group stage campaign this season.
