Sporting 'pay price' for sole mistake

Paulo Bento felt Sporting Clube de Portugal "paid the price for the only bad moment we had" as they lost 1-0 at home to FC Bayern München. Bastian Schweinsteiger scored the only goal in the first half, and was sent off in the second, as the German champions opened up a five-point lead in Group B ahead of the return with Sporting in a fortnight. uefa.com rounds up the reaction from the Estádio José Alvalade.

Paulo Bento, Sporting coach
Neither team dominated early on but Bayern were superior until the goal as we gave them room. They took advantage with one of their main strengths, shooting from distance. We were not aggressive enough, allowing them to move the ball, although we dominated in the second half playing against ten men. We had our chances but lost concentration and Bayern showed their maturity and experience to control the match. I think the result is unfair - we paid the price for the only bad moment we had. In the Champions League that is enough, one chance. Inter have three points and we have four so things will be tough, especially as we have to play in Munich and Milan, but we will not give up.

Felix Magath, Bayern coach
We were on top for the opening 20 minutes and deserved to take the lead. We should have made it two and the game would have been over. We then made the mistake of allowing them to attack and I must admit I feared that they would score. After the sending off we showed that we are a team who knows how to fight on the pitch. Oliver Kahn had a good game but the defence didn't give him too many opportunities to shine as they put in some great work.
