Djukić fuels Serbia belief

Coach Miroslav Djukić is confident Serbia "have the quality" to reach the 2007 finals after impressively reaching the play-offs as the winners of Group 3.

Coach Miroslav Djukić is confident Serbia "have the quality" to reach the UEFA European Under-21 Championship after taking a step closer to the 2007 finals in the Netherlands by winning qualifying Group 3.

'Almost perfect'
Runners-up in 2004 and semi-finalists this year in Portugal as Serbia and Montenegro, the now separate nation followed up Saturday's 3-1 victory in Georgia with a routine 2-0 success against Lithuania in Novi Sad last night to progress to Friday's play-off draw. Djukić, who replaced Dragomir Okuka ahead of this campaign, said of Wednesday's display: "It was almost perfect and I cannot be anything other than satisfied with that. The play-offs were our primary target but we have the quality to go further and reach the EURO.

Luck needed
"I hope to keep the best aspects of our play from these games for the play-offs while taking out the bad things. We missed two penalties against Lithuania which is not good enough, but sometimes these things happen. Everybody needs luck at times and we'll need it in Friday's draw." The man upended for both those spot-kicks, Dragan Mrda, added: "We deserve first place in the group. This is a golden generation and I'm proud to be part of it."

Janković confident
Midfielder Boško Janković concurred: "There is a great spirit in the team. I believe there is still more to come from what is already a formidable side and I'm confident we will show just how good we are in the future."
