Captain Sergej Barbarez has announced his retirement from international football after playing in Bosnia-Herzegovina's 100th match in Zenica on Wednesday night.

Final flourish
The 35-year-old attacking midfielder decided to make his 47th appearance for his country - in a 4-0 UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying defeat at home against Greece - his last, having scored 15 goals. He said: "I have decided to end my career in the national team. At my age, playing club and international football is too big a demand.

Special experience
"It was a tough decision," added the former FK Velez, Hannover 96, FC Hansa Rostock, BV Borussia Dortmund and Hamburger SV player, who is now with Bayer 04 Leverkusen. "Playing for my country has always meant a lot to me. The support of the fans for the national team has always been fantastic."
