Zurawski commits to Wisla

Wisla Kraków's UEFA Cup hopes have been boosted by striker Maciej Zurawski's decision to sign a new deal.

Wisla Kraków's UEFA Cup hopes have been boosted with the news that leading scorer Maciej Zurawski has signed a new contract which will keep him at the Polish club until 2007.

Speculation ended
Zurawski, who has scored 15 goals in 15 league matches this season plus seven in European competition, had been the subject of transfer speculation. However, on Wednesday he expressed his delight with his new contract. "It was my individual decision, and I thought about it for long time," he said. "I am happy to stay at Wisla. We have a great spirit and want to have success in Europe.

Champions League target
"Except for the financial stability it gives me, it also means I won't be leaving the club in the near future," he continued. "And now I'm staying at Wisla we want to win the title, and our target is [UEFA] Champions League football."

Kasperczak pleased
Wisla coach Henryk Kasperczak was also pleased with the outcome of negotiations with Zurawski. "We are all satisfied with this," he said. Wisla face Italian side S.S. Lazio in the UEFA Cup fourth round in February.
