Ergic news boosts Basel

FC Basel's Ivan Ergic will be fit in time for the resumption of the UEFA Champions League.

FC Basel midfield player Ivan Ergic will be fit for the club's UEFA Champions League fixtures in the new year after undergoing surgery on his injured knee, the Swiss side said today.

On-loan Ergic
Yugoslavian Under-21 international Ergic, on loan from Italian side Juventus FC for the season, has not played since being substituted late in the 3-1 Champions League defeat by Manchester United FC three weeks ago. He has made a total of five appearances in this season's Champions League, scoring two goals.

Fit for resumption
However, the 21-year-old will be fit when the Champions League resumes in February following a successful operation on his knee in Munich. Swiss double winners Basel welcome RC Deportivo La Coruña on 19 February in their next Group D fixture. They have been beaten by United and Juventus in their opening second group stage games.
