Xavi adds to Barcelona concerns

FC Barcelona are still counting the cost of Tuesday's draw with Chelsea FC after Xavi Hernández and Eidur Gudjohnsen were ruled out of this weekend's game.

FC Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard is still counting the cost of Tuesday's UEFA Champions League draw with Chelsea FC after Xavi Hernández and Eidur Gudjohnsen were ruled out of Saturday's trip to RC Deportivo La Coruña.

Hairline fracture
Xavi, who missed the majority of the 2005/06 campaign with a knee complaint, suffered a hairline fracture to the tibia in his left leg in the Group A game and had to be replaced by Andrés Iniesta in the 83rd minute. The 26-year-old Spanish international midfielder sat out training yesterday after a scan confirmed the injury and Barça's medical staff believe he will be out for ten days, although a longer lay-off is a possibility.

Gudjohnsen relief
The 28-year-old Gudjohnsen, meanwhile, departed the Camp Nou pitch on a stretcher after spraining his ankle. The Icelandic international forward - who scored Barcelona's second goal in the 2-2 draw against his former club - has made a swift recovery although final tests on the problem this morning showed he would have to skip the visit to the Riazor. Rijkaard is short on striking power with Samuel Eto'o a long-term absentee due to a knee injury.
