Carvalhal quits as Braga boss

Carlos Carvalhal has resigned as coach of Portuguese club SC Braga, six months after taking charge and six days after an emphatic UEFA Cup group-stage win.

Carlos Carvalhal has stood down as coach of SC Braga, six months after taking charge of the UEFA Cup challengers.

'Personal reasons'
The 40-year-old former CF Os Belenenses boss replaced Jesualdo Ferreira in mid-May and oversaw a reasonable start in the Liga - Braga lie eighth, two points behind third-placed SL Benfica - and the UEFA Cup where Thursday's 4-0 victory against FC Slovan Liberec lifted them to second spot in Group C. "I don't live 24 hours for football because there are more important things in life," Carvalhal said. "Only personal reasons would force me to leave this job and I'll keep them to myself, although I was at a dead end."
