Liedson suspended for Sporting trip

Sporting Clube de Portugal will be without Liedson for their trip to FC Internazionale Milano as the forward is one of eight players suspended for Matchday 5.

Sporting Clube de Portugal will be without key striker Liedson for their crucial trip to FC Internazionale Milano as the forward is one of eight players suspended for UEFA Champions League Matchday 5.

Blow for Sporting
While Inter have no players or coaches banned for the first time since the opening week of Group B, Liedson's bookings in both matches against FC Bayern München took his tally to three, meaning a one-game ban on Wednesday for a match Sporting cannot afford to lose. Defender Miguel Veloso is one yellow card away from a suspension, as is Bayern's Andreas Ottl at FC Spartak Moskva, though the German champions now have Bastian Schweinsteiger available after he missed the visit of Sporting.

Rivals weakened
Chelsea FC visit Werder Bremen on the same night with both teams able to progress from Group A. The London side are without Frank Lampard while Frank Baumann misses the game for Bremen with both players having reached the three-card threshold. Joe Cole and John Terry are one caution away from missing Chelsea's Matchday 6 encounter with PFC Levski Sofia.

Tomas out
In Group C Galatasaray SK will be missing defender Stjepan Tomas as they travel to FC Girondins de Bordeaux while Ayhan Akman is one booking from a suspension. Bordeaux are without Fernando Menegazzo after his red card at Liverpool FC. Both those sides can only reach the UEFA Cup. The same is true of FC Shakhtar Donetsk who welcome AS Roma in Group D without the suspended Tomáš Hübschman but welcome back Viacheslav Sviderskiy and Anatoliy Tymoschuk from bans.

Lille duo banned
Just two players are required to sit out Tuesday night with the LOSC Lille Métropole duo of Yohan Cabaye and Efstathios Tavlaridis missing the visit of RSC Anderlecht in Group H, where AC Milan welcome back Daniele Bonera at AEK Athens FC. However, FC Steaua Bucuresti's Dorin Goian, Banel Nicolita and Ovidiu Petre will all need to be careful as they aim to earn a UEFA Cup place at home against FC Dynamo Kyiv - all three are one booking shy of being banned for the trip to Olympique Lyonnais on 6 December.
