Miccoli wants Manchester mastery

Fabrizio Miccoli hopes another performance of the calibre of their 3-1 win against FC København can earn SL Benfica a last-16 place on Matchday 6.

'A good show'
Miccoli struck two of Benfica's three first-half goals as they swept the Danish champions aside to set up a Matchday 6 showdown with Manchester United FC. Two points behind United in Group F, Benfica need to win at Old Trafford to progress to the last 16 but Miccoli believes the way they responded to last Saturday's disappointing Liga defeat at SC Braga should boost confidence for the challenge ahead. "After the game in Braga it was very important to put on a good show and get a good result and I hope we can continue to play like we did tonight," the Italian told uefa.com.

Man of the match
"In the first half we played very, very well, we created a lot of chances to score and got three goals," he said. "It wasn't a case of København being weak opposition - it was about us working hard as a team and playing better. Of course, it will be very difficult to get a result in Manchester as they're a very strong team but in football everything is possible and we will give it our best." Miccoli was named uefa.com Fans' Man of the Match after opening his UEFA Champions League account for the season. He said of his own efforts at the Estádio da Luz: "I felt very strong physically tonight. I'm in a good condition and it's very important that I stay in this form."

'Anything is possible'
Also on the scoresheet was full-back Léo, who opened the floodgates with his first goal in the UEFA Champions League. The Brazilian said that "anything is possible for Benfica" as they look forward to facing the same United team they dumped out of Europe with victory at the same stage last term. "It's going to be a big match," he added. "Both teams need a result and we will have to work hard to achieve an historic win at Old Trafford."
