Thigh trouble stalling Ferrari

AS Roma defender Matteo Ferrari will be out of action for around three weeks after damaging a ligament in his right knee at FC Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.

Point required
Ferrari was replaced by David Pizarro after 69 minutes of the game at the RSC Olympiyskiy Stadium in Ukraine and will miss Roma's last match in UEFA Champions League Group D, at home to Valencia CF on 5 December when the Giallorossi will need one point to progress to the knockout stage. Roma are second in the section with seven points, two above Shakhtar, and also hold the advantage on the Ukrainian outfit by virtue of their superior head-to-head record.

Roma return
The 26-year-old, whose previous clubs include FC Internazionale Milano and Parma FC, moved to Roma in 2004 and has since made 44 Serie A appearances for the capital team, although he spent 2005/06 on loan in the English Premiership with Everton FC. The Italian international has featured nine times in the current league campaign and has been ever-present in the UEFA Champions League.
