Valencia CF shocked fourth-placed Real Zaragoza with a fantastic strike by Miguel Ángel Angulo to give them a 1-0 away victory in the Primera División on Saturday.
Valencia were under constant pressure but won with a breakaway beauty as Angulo stunned Zaragoza with a swerving shot from 35 metres out that flew just inside the post five minutes before the interval. The result saw Valencia climb three places up to sixth in the table.
Midfielder Javi Martínez struck twice to help Athletic Club Bilbao to their second victory in a row under new coach Mane with a 2-0 win at out-of-form RC Deportivo La Coruña. Athletic got off to a perfect start in the torrential rain at the Riazor when Martínez sent a glancing header into the net following a corner in the eighth minute.
Deportivo fought back hard and dominated possession but their centre back Juanma was sent off before Martínez bundled in the second to help lift Athletic four points clear of the relegation zone and just three adrift of Depor, who have now gone eight matches since their last win.
Real Racing Club Santander fought their way back from a goal down to snatch a 2-1 win at RCD Mallorca, with second half strikes by Ruben and Javier Balboa cancelling out a neat half-volley from Serbian striker Boško Janković.
