Taylor relinquishes England role

England coach Peter Taylor has stood down citing club commitments, despite leading his nation to this summer's UEFA European U21 Championship finals.

Club commitments
The Football Association (FA) confirmed to uefa.com that the 54-year-old is to concentrate on his club commitments with Crystal Palace FC as they seek promotion to the Premiership. The decision brings to an end Taylor's second spell in charge of the U21 side, the former England striker having previously worked with the youngsters between 1996 and 1999.

Play-off victory
He returned to the post in 2004 and had the satisfaction of securing a place in this summer's final round in the Netherlands after a two-legged play-off victory against Germany last October. The FA has yet to name Taylor's successor with a quick decision expected given the friendly against Spain early next month. At the finals, to be played between 10 and 21 June, England have been drawn in the same group as the Czech Republic, Italy and Serbia.
