Parma victory
The 47-year-old coach leaves with Braga well placed to reach the last 16 of the UEFA Cup, having defeated Parma FC 1-0 in the first leg of their Round of 32 tie last week. However, Sunday's 1-0 league defeat at UD Leira prompted a meeting with the club's board and on Monday morning it was decided to terminate the coach's contract with immediate effect. Assistant coach Jorge Costa, a legend with FC Porto, will take charge of the team in the immediate future with Jorge Vital and Miguel Cardoso acting as his assistants. Braga, who are fifth in the Liga, travel to Italy on Thursday for the second leg of the tie against Parma.
