Espanyol lose key midfielders

Iván De La Peña and Albert Riera will miss the concluding leg of RCD Espanyol's UEFA Cup tie against AS Livorno Calcio after each suffered calf injuries.

Iván De La Peña and Albert Riera will miss Thursday's concluding leg of RCD Espanyol's UEFA Cup tie against AS Livorno Calcio with calf injuries.

Niggling ailments
Tests on the 30-year-old De La Peña on Monday confirmed he had strained a muscle in his right leg and he is in doubt for the weekend Primera División game against fellow Round of 32 contenders CA Osasuna. The 24-year-old Riera has a similar problem in his left leg meaning both midfielders will sit out as Ernesto Valverde's side welcome Livorno with a 2-1 lead from the away leg. Meanwhile, the club's top goalscorer in the competition, Walter Pandiani, and Marc Torrejón face late fitness tests due to a bruised toe and a sprained ankle respectively. The winners will face either FC Spartak Moskva or Maccabi Haifa FC in the Round of 16.
