Gardner adds to Tottenham troubles

Tottenham Hotspur FC defender Anthony Gardner is expected to be out for six weeks after suffering a hairline fracture of his fibula at Chelsea FC on Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur FC defender Anthony Gardner will miss the second leg of their UEFA Cup Round of 16 tie with SC Braga on Thursday night and is expected to be on the sidelines for six weeks after suffering a hairline fracture of his fibula in Sunday's English FA Cup quarter-final at Chelsea FC.

'Versatile squad'
The 26-year-old centre-back sustained the injury soon after coming on as a substitute at Stamford Bridge, although Martin Jol - who is still without another central defender and captain Ledley King - believes his squad has the depth to cope with Gardner's absence as they continue their cup campaigns. "Anthony came on at Chelsea and after a couple of seconds took a knock to his knee," said the Tottenham manager. "We'll do a scan but it looks like he'll be out for around six weeks. Fortunately, we have a squad of versatile players who can cover our defensive positions."
