The Latvian Football Federation (LFF) has accepted the resignation of national team coach Jurijs Andrejevs in the wake of Wednesday's UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying defeat in Liechtenstein.
Low point
Latvia, who participated at the UEFA EURO 2004™ finals in Portugal, lost 1-0 against the Group F minnows leaving them with just three points from four games. It was the final straw for the 50-year-old Andrejevs, who had replaced Aleksandrs Starkovs at the helm at the start of 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying, having previously assisted the outgoing coach. LFF general secretary Janis Mežeckis has been assigned the task of finding a successor, with the name of Starkovs, now director of football at Skonto FC, being touted.
