Jarosík told to stay home

Jirí Jarosík has been left out the Czech Republic squad to face France in order to get used to life in Russia.

Record deal
Jarosík joined the Muscovites last month for €3.7m from AC Sparta Praha, making him the most expensive player ever to sign for a Premier League club. Karel Brückner, the Czech coach, has opted against including him as he wants Jarosík to have a settled home life ahead of the UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifier against the Netherlands in Rotterdam on 29 March.

Petrous returns
Two other notable absentees are Reggina Calcio defender Martin Jiránek and striker Jirí Stajner from Hannover 96 as neither is playing regularly for their clubs. There are no newcomers in the 18-man squad, though defender Adam Petrous returns after a seven-month break from international football for the Stade de France fixture against the European champions.

Previous meeting
Both the Czechs and the Dutch have won their opening two qualifying matches in Group 3. They were also pitted together in the first stage of EURO 2000™, the Dutch winning 1-0 thanks to Frank de Boer's last-minute penalty in Amsterdam.

Czech Republic squad
