Mido sent back to reserves

Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam has been demoted to the AFC Ajax reserves for the rest of the season as his disagreement with coach Ronald Koeman goes on.

Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' has been banished back to the AFC Ajax reserve team after criticising his coach.

Substitute appearance
The Egyptian international was sent to train with the reserves in the build-up to Wednesday's UEFA Champions League game against Arsenal FC after failing to turn up at a sponsors' meeting, but was recalled and made an appearance as a substitute in the 0-0 draw at the Amsterdam ArenA.

Disparaging comments
The club announced that Mido had apologised to coach Ronald Koeman and the rest of his team-mates and that technical director Leo Beenhakker had agreed to let him back into the side.

Back to the reserves
However, Mido insisted after Wednesday's game that he had not apologised and Beenhakker and Koeman, slighted by other comments he made, have now decided that the Egyptian will train with the reserves until the end of the season.

'No idea'
"I have no idea why I was sent back to the reserves," said the 20-year-old, who is Ajax's top scorer this season with nine goals in 16 games. "I haven't asked Koeman anything about this either. What's the use in that? He decided I had to leave the first team. If this is what the coach wants, I lay my head down."

Mido angry
"Later, you hear it had something to do with me not attending a sponsors' meeting," he added. "I didn't go, that's true. But you don't ban a player for such a thing. And that I was not attending Dutch lessons - rubbish! You can ask my teacher."

Personality clash
Mido admitted that he and Koeman have had differences of opinion but said that he was still prepared to work with the former Dutch international. "I think Koeman doesn't like how I behave in some situations," said Mido. "He said he was professional enough to work with a player who is not a friend. Well I can work with a coach who is not my friend too."
