Sevilla FC striker Frédéric Kanouté has signed a new contract keeping him with the UEFA Cup holders until the summer of 2010.

Extension
Kanouté, who scored 21 goals in 32 Primera División appearances last season for third-placed Sevilla, has extended his deal with the Andalusian club by a year. He was a key player for Juande Ramos's side as they lifted both the UEFA Cup and the Spanish Cup in 2006/07.

Strike rate
The 29-year-old Mali international has also recorded ten UEFA Cup goals in 21 games in the competition since joining Sevilla from Tottenham Hotspur FC early in the 2005/06 campaign. He struck the fourth goal in his team's 4-0 defeat of Middlesbrough FC in the 2006 UEFA Cup final, before netting their second in the 2-2 final draw against RCD Espanyol in Glasgow in May. In the penalty shoot-out that followed the 120 minutes at Hampden Park, Kanouté also converted successfully from the spot. He had previously played for another English club, West Ham United FC, having broken into the professional ranks at Olympique Lyonnais.
