FC Steaua Bucureşti captain Mirel Radoi will undergo keyhole surgery on his left knee later this week after damaging the exterior meniscus in the joint in training on Monday.

Radoi will fly to Bologna for the operation, the success of which will determine the length of the 26-year-old midfielder's absence. The injury is the latest in a long line for the Romanian international who suffered a similar problem to his right knee last summer and again earlier this year and comes as a significant setback to Steaua as they prepare for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie against FC BATE Borisov on Wednesday with the tie level at 2-2. Central defender Dorin Goian is a doubt for that game having trained on his own tonight due to an ankle injury. Radoi, meanwhile, will also miss Romania's UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifier against Belarus in Minsk on 8 September and the friendly against Germany four days later, with further qualifying fixtures against the Netherlands and Luxembourg following in October.
