Fenerbahçe SK coach Zico has predicted more success for his side as they embark on a maiden voyage in the knockout rounds after the Turkish champions overcame PFC CSKA Moskva 3-1 in Istanbul to qualify in second place behind FC Internazionale Milano in Group G. Beaten coach Valeri Gazzaev graciously congratulated his opponents, adding that he felt his young side could not have given any more.

Zico, Fenerbahçe coach
We deserved to win tonight. In the first 20 minutes my players didn't perform because they were under a lot of pressure, but after conceding their mood changed and we became more determined to win the game. After scoring our first goal we started to play the way we wanted and we also got the result we wanted. I want to congratulate CSKA, they showed us what being professional means. Even though they had no chance of qualifying they did their best to win and proved tough opponents. I want to thank all our supporters, without them we couldn't have made it. I think Fenerbahçe are a real team. Our players have had success but we also have team spirit and I believe we will be very successful in the next phase.

Valeri Gazzaev, CSKA Moskva coach
I want to congratulate Fenerbahçe for making it through to the next round. Zico is an old friend of mine and I'm very happy about his success. We fielded so many young players and they did a great job, the only thing missing was experience. We knew Fenerbahçe were a strong team but when the draw was made we hoped and believed we would qualify along with Inter, but I'm not totally surprised it hasn't worked out that way. The Champions League was difficult for us but I want to wish good luck to Fenerbahçe.
