Health worries eased for Inter's Rivas

FC Internazionale Milano doctor Franco Combi has denied reports that Nelson Rivas has serious health problems after the defender lost consciousness in training.

FC Internazionale Milano doctor Franco Combi has denied reports that Nelson Rivas has serious health problems after the player lost consciousness in training last weekend. The Colombian defender will continue to undergo tests, however, causing him to miss Tuesday's UEFA Champions League visit of PSV Eindhoven.

Tests 'reassuring'
"He's fine," Combi said. "The tests we have carried out so far are reassuring. He now has to complete them because Italian laws are very strict about this kind of problem. It's then up to the authorities to look at the tests. For me, it's just a blackout. We have completed the neurological tests and they're fine – we just need to finish off the smaller tests. There's no serious pathology and no big risk for the player. But it's right to complete the tests and to do so calmly without putting pressure on him."

The 24-year-old Rivas, who joined the Italian champions from CA River Plate this summer on a contract until 2011, made his Inter debut in the 1-0 Group G defeat at Fenerbahçe SK on Matchday 1. Coach Roberto Mancini is again without the suspended Nicolás Burdisso, Maicon and Iván Córdoba for the PSV game, while Marco Materazzi is struggling with a thigh injury. Cristian Chivu is expected to return though, after dislocating his shoulder on international duty with Romania, even if he plays no part in Saturday's Serie A match at AS Roma.
