Medical confirmation
Medical tests this morning confirmed that the Mexican international had sustained the injury and the club are now resigned to being without him for up to a month. Carles Puyol came on as a sixth-minute substitute for Márquez and went on to score Barça's opening goal before picking up an injury to his left calf. However, the club have announced that this is not a serious injury and hope he will be fit for this weekend's Primera División game against Club Atlético de Madrid. Frank Rijkaard is short of defensive options, with Gianluca Zambrotta and Gabriel Milito both nursing thigh injuries and midfielder Yaya Touré is also out for a month. Wins in both of their opening UEFA Champions League games have left Barça top of Group E.
