Henriksen steps up at Rosenborg

Nicknamed Rambo during his playing days at Rosenborg BK, Trond Henriksen has replaced his "best friend" Knut Tørum as coach for the rest of the year.

Trond Henriksen has become the latest in a long line of assistant coaches to be promoted to the top job at Rosenborg BK, replacing Knut Tørum who left on Thursday following the previous night's UEFA Champions League victory against Valencia CF.

'Best friend'
Before Henriksen, Ola By Rise, Per Joar Hansen and Tørum had all made the transformation from assistant to first-team coach in the last three years. The new boss has been appointed for the rest of the year but has promised to give everything for the cause. "When Knut Tørum resigned he wanted me to take over. Tørum was my best friend at Rosenborg, and I listened to his advice," Henriksen said.

Rambo
The former right-back joined Rosenborg from his local club, Nidelv, as a youngster, and went on to enjoy a trophy-laden career in Trondheim. Nicknamed Rambo because of his no-nonsense style, Henriksen won five league titles (1985, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1993) and three Norwegian Cups (1988, 1990, 1992). He retired in 1993 but did not get into coaching until joining the youth set-up at Rosenborg.

Postman
In 2005 he steered the club's juniors to Norwegian Cup success and was promoted to the senior ranks when Per-Mathias Høgmo took sick leave and Tørum replaced him. Henriksen said: "I will not change much around here. I want to continue the playing style that Knut Tørum wanted, and that worked so spectacularly against Valencia." As a former postman, Henriksen will hope to deliver more victories in the UEFA Champions League. Rosenborg are second in Group B after three matches.
