Defender Michel Morganella has signed a three-year contract extension at FC Basel 1893, with the Swiss Super League leaders moving quickly to reward his progress.

Teenage talent
The 18-year-old right-back's deal was due to expire next summer but he will now remain with Christian Gross's Basel until 2011. Having joined the club's youth system from FC Sion in July 2004, Morganella made his first three top-flight appearances last season before earning one start this term. The Swiss Under-19 international will hope to feature in Basel's UEFA Cup Group D campaign – his side beat Stade Rennais FC 1-0 on Matchday 1 and face further tests against NK Dinamo Zagreb, SK Brann and Hamburger SV.
