Navigator joins journey to EURO 2004™

The Portucel Soporcel group was confirmed today as a 'national supporter' of the UEFA EURO 2004™.

The Portucel Soporcel group was confirmed today as a 'National Supporter' of the UEFA European Championship in Portugal.

Official paper
The announcement was made in Lisbon at a ceremony attended by Minister José Luís Arnaut. The signing of the contract confirmed Portucel Soporcel's Navigator brand as the official paper of UEFA EURO 2004™.

'Strong challenge'
"This is a strong challenge for one of the best-known Portuguese brands in Europe, which is developing a growing stake in the European market for office paper," said Álvaro Barreto, chairman of the Board of Soporcel. "It is a pleasure and a privilege to join UEFA EURO 2004™ as a 'National Supporter', having an active role in one of the three biggest sporting events worldwide."

Development opportunity
Álvaro Barreto added that his company made the investment knowing that "UEFA EURO 2004™ will be an enormous success". He said: "The greatest sporting event ever to be held in Portugal will provide Navigator with the opportunity to further develop and reinforce its brand and build on existing customer relationships."

'Satisfaction and pride'
Minister José Luís Arnaut said: "It is with great satisfaction and pride that the Portuguese government sees another Portuguese company join UEFA EURO 2004™. This is not an ordinary company, but a high-profile one, which shows that there are still Portuguese companies interested in partnering the most important organisation this country has ever had."

Well-known brand
Gilberto Madaíl, Portuguese Football Federation president and Chairman of the Board of Euro 2004, S. A., said: "Navigator is a well-known worldwide office paper brand and through this brand we can 'navigate' to the successful task of delivering a fine tournament. Navigator can actively help UEFA EURO 2004™ succeed."

Philippe Margraff, head of UEFA's Marketing Operations Centre, said: "The 'National Supporter' project aims to have six big Portuguese companies as partners for the event, driven by their passion for the game.
